Asinike Drilling & Mining Corp goes to where the work takes them in rural and remote Northwestern Ontario. As Asinike Drilling & Mining Corp continues to work in partnership with industry leaders in the mining sector, we do so with a mandate to benefit the community members of Naotkamegwanning First Nation. It is in this respect that we seek mutually beneficial contracts – focused on fairness and transparency. This in turn supports every effort for self-determination and self-governance by Indigenous communities across Turtle Island.
Asinike Drilling & Mining Corp is wholly owned and operated by Naotkamewanning Business Corporation. The Ojibway community of Naotkamegwanning First Nation is located on the eastern shores of Lake of the Woods in Northwestern Ontario in the heart of Treaty #3 Territory. The cultural identity of the community is strongly connected to the past, keeping their Anishinaabe practices and ceremonies alive as part of their everyday way of life. Many of the people of Naotkamegwanning continue a connection with the land and maintain a lifestyle that includes fishing, hunting and harvesting wild rice. The importance of passing on teachings, language and cultural practices are evident in their delivery of programs and services within the community.
Naotkamegwanning is committed to creating pathways forward that support self-determination, self-government, and business opportunities for the benefit of all community members. Asinike Drilling & Mining Corp is led by Mark Mallette and supported jointly by the offices of economic development and mines + minerals.
ASINIKE: People That Play With Rock
Asinike Drilling & Mining Corp works within the traditional territory of Treaty #3 and when the opportunities present themselves, further afield. Mineral exploration plays a key role in ensuring the long-term viability of Canada’s mining industry. It leads to the discovery and development of mineral deposits that may become future mines, creates jobs, often in remote and northern communities and attracts significant investments. When Indigenous peoples can manage land and own businesses, communities are better able to use, protect and develop it according to agreed upon goals and objectives. This in turn holds the promise of improving the lives of community members while supporting Indigenous socio-economic development.
